Sport Pilot
The sport pilot certificate was only created back in 2008, but is quickly becoming a popular option for both new pilots and seasoned pilots alike. There are more limitations on a sport pilot than on a private pilot, but the reward of learning to fly is just the same! Wausau Flying Service does not currently have a sport plane available to rent, but we can train you in our Cessna 150 up to solo. At that time, alternate plans will have to made to complete your sport pilot training. Despite this, Wausau Flying Service, Inc. can still save you money, as our C-150 rents for less than many of the popular sport planes in the area.

We do not guarantee that a student will solo in 20 hours. When a candidate is ready to solo, the student will have to switch to a Sport Pilot school with a qualifying aircraft to finish flight training. These figures are only estimates of the actual cost. The cost for each individual varies with several factors such as aptitude, frequency of lessons, and pre-flight preparation. Most students pay as they fly, however, financing may be available from your personal financial institution. The cost for the sport pilot knowledge exam (written test) is $150.00. The current cost for a Sport Pilot practical test (check ride) with a local Designated Examiner is $300.00.
If obtaining a medical certificate is not a concern, you can have all the privileges of a sport pilot without the weight restriction, by becoming a Recreational Pilot. Please call us for more information.
