Milestones

Jim VanEyck flew with Duffy Gaier to earn his Private Pilot License on August 17, 2006.  Jim flew with CFI’s Jeff Welch, Robert Fenske, and John Chmiel to prepare for his checkride.  Jim retired from Wausau Insurance as the Executive VP of Customer Service.  He has taken up flying as a hobby.

Joe Scaffidi flew with only one soul on board an aircraft under his command for the first time on August 9, 2006.   Joe flew Wausau Flying Service's 1998 Cessna C-172 Skyhawk N2151J.  He flew with WFS Flight Instructors Jeff Welch and Robert Fenske.  Joe is a junior at Wausau West High School, and part-time line man at WFS.

Jake Sonnentag flew with only one soul on board an aircraft under his command for the first time on July 21, 2006.   Jake flew Wausau Flying Service's 1998 Cessna C-172 Skyhawk N2151J.  He flew with WFS Flight Instructors Jeff Welch and Robert Fenske.  Jake is a student at UWSP.

Robert Fenske has complete FlightSafety International’s course on the Beechcraft King Air C-90GT on June 24, 2006.  He has been flying the aircraft with the owner since that time.  Also at FlightSafety, Robert earned his ATP certificate flying the King Air simulator.  Congratulations Robert!

Steve Flage earned his Private Pilot License on June 19, 2006.  Steve took his checkride with Duffy Gaier in Marshfield, and flew Wausau Flying Service’s Skyhawk N2151J.  Steve flew with CFI’s Jeff Welch, Jeff Meachen, Robert Fenske, and John Chmiel to prepare for his checkride.  Steve is a Regional Manager for River Valley State Bank.

Dave Harm flew with only one soul on board an aircraft under his command for the first time on October 5, 2006.   Dave flew Wausau Flying Service's 1998 Cessna C-172 Skyhawk N2151J.  He flew with WFS Flight Instructors Jeff Welch and John Chmiel.  Dave is a supervisor at Wisconsin Public Service.

The Northwoods Chapter of the Ninety-Nines met in Wausau this November.  They held an informational meeting, followed by a brief tour of the airport, including Syd Cohen’s hangar and the Waco Glider restoration project.

Wausau Flying Service CFI Jeff Welch is completing his second Private Pilot Ground School this year.  His students (from L to R) include Cameron Bertsch, Kyle Riffel, Heidi Radlinger, Bill Matyasz, Dave Minderman, and Tom Nieuwenhuis.

Bob Glentz flew with only one soul on board an aircraft under his command for the first time on December 17, 2006 (the 103rd anniversary of powered flight!).   Bob flew Wausau Flying Service's 1998 Cessna C-172 Skyhawk N2151J.  He flew with WFS Flight Instructors Jeff Welch and John Chmiel.

Nate Franson flew with Duffy Gaier to earn his Private Pilot License on February 2, 2007.  Nate flew with CFI’s Jeff Welch, Robert Fenske, and John Chmiel to prepare for his checkride.  He has taken up flying as a hobby.

Dan Weinkauf flew N172TK with Sherwood “Woody” Williams to earn his Private Pilot License on July 3, 2007.  Dan flew with CFI’s Jeff Welch, Robert Fenske, and John Chmiel to prepare for his checkride.  Congratulations Dan!

Chelsea Cheyka flew N2151J with Sherwood “Woody” Williams to earn her Private Pilot License on July 5, 2007.  Chelsea flew with CFI’s Jeff Meachen, Jeff Welch, Robert Fenske, and John Chmiel to prepare for her checkride.  Congratulations Chelsea!

Jerry Glatczak flew with only one soul on board an aircraft under his command for the first time on May 8, 2008.   Jerry flew Wausau Flying Service's Cessna C-172 Skyhawk N737SJ.  He flew with WFS flight Instructors Chris MacAdams and John Chmiel.
