I recently finished reading The Proficient Pilot by Barry Schiff, and at the end of the book he addresses some common fads and fallacies. He explored one such fallacy by posing a question: Consider two pressure systems; one is a high while the other is a low. Two airports, one in each of the systems, are at sea level, and observers at each report identical weather conditions: clear skies, light winds, and standard atmospheric conditions. Each of two pilots flying identical light airplanes departs simultaneously from each of the airports. Everything else being equal, above which of the two airports will one pilot encounter better climb performance than the other (the pilot in the high pressure system or the pilot in the low pressure system)? |

Wausau International Airport? |
|
The Falcon 900 based here in Wausau turned the Wausau Downtown Airport into the Wausau International Airport, if only for a day. The Falcon flew non-stop from KAUW direct to EINN, which is located in Shannon, Ireland to pick up passengers. It took just over eight hours for the jet to make the trip across the pond. |
