We’re Back!

I know its been awhile since we produced an issue of “CONTACT!”  This will be the first since April, but we’ve got good reasons.  First and foremost is we wanted to change our look.  We’ve got a new logo and as you can see, we changed the style of our website to match.  We also wanted to clean up the website so it was more “user friendly.”  Customers have always complemented us on our website, but they also provided us with constructive criticism to help us improve.  We’ve attempted to implement these changes:

1. We’ll only archive “CONTACT!” newsletters going back one year to clear up some confusion about current events.

2. Each issue of “CONTACT!” will now have links to your favorite monthly columns such as “Classifieds,” “Events,” “Milestones,” etc.  This should make loading the newsletter easier and faster.

3. Only one-time articles and current information will be included on the main page of the monthly newsletter.

I know there’s still more work to be done updating the website, so initially there will be some blank pages.  Please be patient, but let us know what you think.  Forward any suggestions you have to Jordan at auw2fly@hotmail.com or John at taildraggerflyer@yahoo.com.

Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends and if you know of someone who may be interested in receiving "Contact!", email me at taildraggerflyer@yahoo.com.  CAVU and wishes for safe flight to you all!!!

Hangar Construction Update

We are hoping this area will be repaved within the next two weeks.  In addition to repaving the taxiway, the entries to the hangar taxiways east and west of the new hangar will be widened at the entries from the ramp and taxiway A.  This is because the new hangar is 48’ deep versus the 33’ depth of T-hangars 01-10.  The striping will be modified accordingly to show the new taxiway centerline.

There is room for an additional hangar south of Mr. Woldt’s hangar.  This new hangar could be built as big as 60’ X 48’.  If you’re interested in buying a completed hangar or constructing a new hangar at the Wausau Airport, contact Al Woldt for more details at 715 571-3243.  Thank you for your patience during construction.

Text Box: Runway 12-30 Now 5200 ft.!

Wausau Downtown Airport has seen a large increase in jet and turbo prop operations since 1992, coinciding with the growth of the Wausau metro area. Since the official runway length increase in September, we have already seen an increased number of jet aircraft use the Wausau Airport. The number of jet aircraft should also remain more consistent through the winter season.

In addition to the runway lengthening in 2006, our perimeter fence project was completed in 2005. Also completed in 2005 was the avigation easement project which protects the airspace along the approaches to

WAUSAU FRIENDS OF THE AIRPORT/EAA CHAPTER 243 MEET NOVEMBER 8

Open letter from Bob Wylie to EAA Chapter 243 members, former members and all interested aviation enthusiasts.
Please excuse the paraphrasing, but “now is the time for all good men (and women) to come to the aid of their chapter and Wausau area aviation”.
The chapter meeting at the Flying O on September 16 was lightly attended but those present were concerned about the chapter’s future and had a spirited discussion about its future mission, membership growth and aviation related events and activities. All agreed that the next meeting should further explore the many ideas expressed and that it should be held at 6:30 PM, Wednesday November 8, 2006 at the Wausau Downtown Airport terminal building.  Hopefully an evening meeting will result in a large attendance.
Some ideas from the September meeting and informal chat sessions since then, that might serve as an informal agenda for the November 8th meeting, are as follows:
Develop and approve a chapter mission statement.
Create a calendar of events for 2007.
Create a potential membership list and recruit new members (or retrieve old ones).
Distribute responsibility among the membership for meetings and activities.
Investigate the possibility of more joint get-togethers with Chapters 640 and 75 and a combined newsletter for all three chapters.
    Create more exciting meeting formats.
Develop a chapter organization capable of attaining long range aviation related goals that qualify for funding support now in the custody of Wisconsin Airshows, Inc.
Sure it sounds like a big order, but we need to do it.                   See you on November 8
