Robert’s Corner With the runway sealing and painting project completed this fall, you may have noticed some new striping at all the runway hold short lines at Wausau. The Enhanced Runway Centerline is required at large airports that have high traffic volumes, but the markings are optional at all other airports. The Wausau Airport along with Milwaukee, are the only airports in the state to provide the Enhanced Runway Centerline. The reason for the enhanced runway centerline is to provide a visual cue to pilots that they are approaching a runway holding position. The new markings are dashed yellow lines painted on both sides of the centerline for approximately 150 feet before a runway hold short line. So if you encounter the enhanced runway centerline while taxiing, be aware that you are approaching a runway holding position, and be sure you have clearance before crossing the hold short line. |
